May 11, 2024

RUFUS - Governor Lynn Rodgers today signed a spending bill that will authorize the State to spend 2.9 Million Dollars to extend portions of Interstate 890, both North and Southbound lanes. The bill was sent to her desk, which was sent to her after the May 5, 2024 deadline outlined by Governor Thomas Cooke last month. The bill was signed early this morning by Governor Rodgers, who approved the immediate planning of the lane expansion.

"Our State's infrastructure is important to inter-state commerce, and our roads are part of the system," said Governor Rodgers. "To ensure effective and continued inter-state commerce, we must work on improving our existing road structure and I-890 plays a vital role in connecting Southern portions of this state and other states to us, to allow free trade and commerce. This bill will widen the existing road system."

The State Department Of Transportation will spearhead to road construction, and will continue to work towards road construction plans. The project could start as soon as next year. The project will see other road work be completed during the widening of the road, including the implementation of roadside lighting, decorations, road signs and more. The proposals are currently being drafted, and additional details are being provided to Governor Lynn Rodgers, and the Department Of Transportation.
