Governor Rodgers Statement On NSSP Troopers Gunned Down On 8/22

RUFUS - I am absolutely abhorred, appalled and heart broken that three New Shire State Police were shot and killed, violently, this evening where they worked. The violence against our Law Enforcement have no place here, nor anywhere in this country, and just solidifies the need to control access to firearms, which are the leading cause of death in this country.

These troopers were not simply patrolling the streets when they were shot and killed, they were at their headquarter building filing paperwork when a gunman entered the facility and engaged the troopers in a shootout before fatally shooting the three in the face and head. This animal will be prosecuted to the fullest extend of New Shire State Law. It isn't a matter of should gun control exist, its a matter of can we get gun control legislation passed.

We are absolutely heartbroken for the families of these three incredible human beings who put their necks out for our safety and who were tragically taken from us to soon. My heartfelt sympathies go out to their family and I my sincerest prayers go out to everyone who knew them. I will be meeting with the three trooper's families later this week, privately, and I ask that we support them as they continue to grieve.
